Gulf Coast Mensa covers the region of the Greater Houston area and Galveston Bay. Mensa is a not-for-profit organization whose main purpose is: 1) to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; 2) to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and 3) to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

We sponsor Special Interest Groups (SIGs), speaker meetings, game nights, and other intellectual and social events.  In Mensa, members can meet other stimulating members, join one of the over 150 special interest groups (SIGS), and attend local, national, and international events. Mensa encourages and supports programs for gifted children, sponsors research into the nature of intelligence and awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

At our latest "Regional Gathering" we had thought provoking speakers, tastings and other stimulating experiences... we even learned to belly dance!  There are so many ways to enjoy yourself, even on a limited budget, you will wish you had joined sooner.  If you recently joined or need information about logging on the site please notify: webmaster@gcmensa.org

How to Find Love in the New Year: eHarmony or Yenta?
Written by Web Master

Before we knew what eHarmony was, we had real matchmakers, like the one in Fiddler on the Roof.  The Yenta - a Jewish matchmaker knew the candidates and their families providing advice based on more than just what two young people think they want.  It was the Yenta’s responsibility to make sure that the marriage suggested would truly be harmonious.  Matchmaking as an art and profession is still useful today.  Imagine a dating service with no questionnaires, quizzes, long e-mails, nor exchange of photos.  Imagine being able to find your ‘soul mate’ without having to hit the bar or the internet.

Do you wonder what it is like for a modern day Yenta?  Then register for SynRG2010.

This year, we are planning to have a fascinating speaker - a real Jewish matchmaker.  These days the term Yenta has taken on negative connotations as it is usually describing a “busybody” - a meddlesome woman who passionately runs around chatting with people to make matches.  How interesting her life must be?!

Even if you are not looking for a new love, find out what makes good friends, good romance, or good to great ‘soul mates’.  At the very least, you will find ways of reinventing yourself.  REGISTER NOW for SynRG2010 and be enriched by the rare treasure found in the wisdom of a Yenta. Remember the days of old and enter the new decade with new knowledge and thoughts.  Experience SynRG2010 -The Times They-Are-A-Changin’!
