Gulf Coast Mensa Social Network
GREAT MINDS GATHER & GROW TOGETHER

pict1041

Gulf Coast Mensa covers the region of the Greater Houston area and Galveston Bay. Mensa is a not-for-profit organization whose main purpose is: 1) to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; 2) to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and 3) to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

We sponsor Special Interest Groups (SIGs), speaker meetings, game nights, and other intellectual and social events.  In Mensa, members can meet other stimulating members, join one of the over 150 special interest groups (SIGS), and attend local, national, and international events. Mensa encourages and supports programs for gifted children, sponsors research into the nature of intelligence and awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

At our latest "Regional Gathering" we had thought provoking speakers, tastings and other stimulating experiences... we even learned to belly dance!  There are so many ways to enjoy yourself, even on a limited budget, you will wish you had joined sooner.  If you recently joined or need information about logging on the site please notify: webmaster@gcmensa.org

T.I.N.D.O.M.O (THINGS I'D NOT DO ON MY OWN)

This February for T.I.N.D.O.M.O. (Thing I'd Not Do On My Own), we had a nice group tour and day of adventure thanks to our gracious guide Christy from Asian Heritage Discovery. At the Chinese Community Center, old members and new got to see the Chinese New Year Celebration including an appearance by fellow Mensan, Mayor Annise Parker and many other city and county officials.  We also got to to sip tea at the Tapei Cultural Center, try Dim Sum at Ocean Palace, see the inner workings of a nearby Vietnamese temple and  have our names written in Chinese calligraphy.

On March 11th, we will have an opportunity to experience the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in Cantina Style.  A friend of mine gets to have her darling little girl, Sammie' compete in 'Mutton Bustin', If you have yet to see this novel event at the rodeo, you are in for a treat.  E-mail if you want more info or to purchase tickets for 3/11 HLSR with Brad Paisley.

Is there something you would like to do but would not venture on your own?  Make your suggestion and let's try something new. Send to: secretary@gcmensa.org

NEW YEAR, NEW DECADE, NEW LOGO CONTEST
Written by Dale Liu, Assistant LocSec
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 14:00

Now that the new board and the new website have taken flight, we need a new bird, not the same old owl but a wise and unique one that represents the Gulf Coast Chapter.  Your Assistant Local Secretary would like to announce a LOGO CONTEST...

"We are looking for all of your creative M’s to put your artistic skills into action and incorporate the mascot of Mensa (the owl) and your impression of what the Gulf Coast means to you!"
